The FIH Men’s Series Finals Kuala Lumpur 2019 is just three weeks away and the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has announced that there will be no video referral for all the FIH Series Finals 2019 tournaments.

The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) is indeed disappointed and will appeal to the FIH to let Malaysia proceed with the usage of video referral. MHC has made all the arrangements for the necessary equipment to be in place for the tournament to enable the video referal

“MHC competition manager (Brian Fernandez) today informed me that FIH has decided to do away with the usage of video referral for the FIH Men’s Series Finals,” which was confirmed by the MHC President Dato’ Sri Subahan Kamal.

“It has come as a shock to us, not to mention a big disappointment, as we have made all the necessary arrangements for the video referral to be in place for the tournament.

“At this level of competition, it is not fair if there is no video referral in place. We will most definitely make an appeal to FIH.

“Even if the other countries are not having the system, in Malaysia we have it and are ready to use it.”

He added: “The FIH Men’s Series Finals is not a small tournament. This is an Olympic qualifying event. FIH must pay serious attention to this tournament like they have done to all others.”

It is learnt that the FIH has decided to do away with the video referral as not all of the six hosts broadcasters of the FIH Series Finals have the necessary technology in place.
