SSTMI extend lead at the top

KUALA LUMPUR (29 Jan, 2016): Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) Thunderbolts beat Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) 4-0 in their match at the National Hockey Stadium Pitch 2 in Bukit Jalil to remain undefeated and top of Division One in the TNB-Junior Hockey League.

Second placed Pahang Sports School SSP-MSP-Thunderbolt suffered a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of UniKL Young Guns, but still remain on track for a top four finish.

In the other Division one match played, Nur Insafi Hockey drew 1-1 with SMK Dato Bentara Luar Young Guns.

The results see SSTMI lead the standings with 15 points from 5 matches while Pahang Sports School remain second with 9 points after four matches. Politeknik Malaysia, who are not in action this weekend, remain third.

SSTMI had to fight hard to break down a determined MBPJ side and opened the scoring in the 21st minute through a Mohd Akhimullah Anuar Essok field goal.

The second goal came in the 53rd minute through Shello Silverius before Muhd Fitri Khairul Ariffin made it three in the 60 minute while Akhimullah wrapped up the scoring in the 62nd minute also through a field goal.

SSTMI coach Wan Mohd Roslan Abdul Rahman said his team’s fitness was a big factor in their win.
“We started slowly today (Friday), maybe the boys were nervous as this is the first time that we are playing in Kuala Lumpur.

“We do not know the strength of our opponents, so my boys were a bit careful. Also MBPJ’s fitness played a part. In the first half they were closing us down and coming at us.

“But in the second half, they slowed down and started defending and this allowed us to take the game to them,” added Wan Mohd Roslan.

In Division Two, MSN Perlis Young Lion Jr thrashed Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) 9-1 in Kuala Kangsar to go top of Group A. MSS Kedah, who are in action against Matri on Sunday in Kuala Kangsar are second.

In Group B, Kuala Lumpur Sports School (MSSWPKL) stunned Anderson Thunderbolt 2-1 at the Ministry of Education Turf in Pantai.

At the Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium Pitch 1, Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) Jrs extended their undefeated run in the JHL with a 2-1 win over Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (Star).

Anderson remain top in the group on nine points from four matches while BJSS Jrs are second on nine points as well from three matches but with an inferior goal difference. MSSWPKL are third on six points, also from three matches.

In Group C, Malacca High School-Hercules extended their lead at the top with a 7-1 drubbing over Terengganu Sports Council in Malacca. Tunku Besar Secondary School (TBSS) Tampin moved into second spot with a hard fought 3-2 win away to Pahang Hockey Academy in Temerloh.
