MALAYSIA CRUSH CHINA IN NEAR FRACAS MATCH

Malaysia blasted five goals past China in the 5-8th placing match of the 8th Men’s Junior Asia Cup that turned into a near fracas at the Wisma Belia Hockey Stadium.

The first half ended in a 0-0 stalemate but the Malaysians got their act together after the interval and wet ahead 2-0 with a brace from Shahril Saabah (41st and 52nd) much to the delight of an estimated 1,500 fans.

However, the unsavoury drama unfolded in the 53rd minute when China hit back with an E Wenlong field goal. Chinese team captain Li Zecheng was alleged to have pushed Malaysian goalkeeper Mohammad Adi Fazri Abdul Rahim after Wenglong’s goal and this resulted in the Malaysians, led by skipper Najib Hassan, showing their disgust and ensued in both teams pushing and shoving.

Players from the reserve bench also jumped over the barricade and joined in the commotion. Najib and Zecheng were subsequently sent to the sin bin.

The Malaysians continued from where they left off with three more goals – Aiman Nik Rozemi (56th, FG), Shahril bounced back to score his second hat-trick in the tournament with a 64th minute penalty corner goal and Syed Syafiq Cholan made it 5-1 three minutes before the end.

Malaysia now takes on Bangladesh in Sunday’s 5-6th placing match.
