Anderson begin campaign with a bang

Anderson Thunderbolt kicked off their campaign in the Second Round of the TNB-Junior Hockey League in style by demolishing Penang MSSPP-USM 10-1 at the National Hockey Stadium 2 in Bukit Jalil.

Anderson stuck to their aggressive play style, which worked wonders during the group stages, and Penang had no answer to it save for a consolation goal in the one-sided encounter.

Two minutes after the whistle was blown, Anderson started their goal fest through Muhammad Fuad Zaquan Saidin, before Muhammad Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal doubled their lead in the sixth minute.

Skipper Muhammad Nur Syahmi Zulkifli also got his name on the scoreboard for Anderson’s third goal in the 16th minute, followed by Muhammad Najime Ahmad Hayazi at the half-hour mark to close off the first half.

Despite the break, Penang still failed to stifle Anderson’s aggression, and as a result, conceded twice in just 10 minutes after the restart to Muhammad Najime (37′) and Muhammad Fuad (40′).

Muhammad Azrai got his second and Anderson’s seventh goal in the 47th minute, and Muhammad Fuad secured his hat-trick in the 57th minute. Syed Mohamad (63′) and a second from Muhammad Nur Syahmi (68′) made it ten to Anderson.

Penang denied their opponents a clean sheet when Hisham Zulkarnain scored a field goal (69′), but it did little to change the final result.

The win puts Anderson in a good position for their match against Sabah Sports School tomorrow (Feb 25), where another win will give them the chance to fight for the Division 2 champions title.

On the other hand, Penang will need to regroup and look for a much better result when they play the Sabah outfit on Feb 26 in hopes to at least qualify for the 3rd-4th playoffs.

In the other match played today, Bukit Jalil Sports School Juniors made a comeback from one goal down at half-time to beat MSN/PHP Perlis Young Lion Junior 4-3 in their Group Y match.

Perlis started off well with two goals from Mohammad Syawal Aiman Masdi Syam (25′) and Muhammad Faiz Basri (29′) to lead at the break despite Bukit Jalil scoring one through Mohd Shafie Jamdin in the 33rd minute.

Three minutes into the second half Bukit Jalil equalised thanks to Mohamad Syabil Aizam Mohd Noor’s field goal, only for Perlis to regain the lead in the 42nd minute.

In the 54th minute, Mohd Shafie made it 3-3 once more followed by the winning goal in the 59th minute for his hat-trick and the win for the Bukit Jalil boys.

Their coach Tun Mohamed Shahriman Mohammad Suhaimi was happy with the team for playing according to the game plan.

“The boys did their very best, and they really want to push themselves higher. We will be pushing hard for the chance to reach the final as well,” he said.

Bukit Jalil will now look towards another good result when they play TBSS Tampin tomorrow (Feb 26) which could secure their ticket to the championship title match.
