Pahang Sports School back on track

KUALA LUMPUR (30 Jan, 2016): Pahang Sports School-MSP-Thunderbolt maintained their three-point gap behind leaders SSTMI Thunderbolts after a convincing 4-1 win over Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) in Division One of the TNB-National Junior Hockey League at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.

It did not take Pahang Sports School (PSC) long to break down MBPJ’s defences. Muhammad Idris Samad found the net after just four minutes of play before doubling PSC’s lead 13 minutes later.

MBPJ managed to snatch one goal through Faiq Razin Zariq Idris (30′) before the halftime break, but Mohammad Kamil Mohd Yusop found the net twice (40′, 53′) after the interval to hand Pahang Sports School this win.

With 12 points from four wins in five matches, Pahang Sports School maintained their second place in the standing, while MBPJ dropped one spot to seventh place.

Pahang Sports School coach Mohd Sufian Mohamad is delighted with the result after his boys bounced back from the 3-2 defeat against Universiti Kuala Lumpur Young Guns on Friday.

“Yesterday (Friday), we allowed the opponents to score, and failed to take our chances. But the boys watched the replay and learned from their mistakes. There will be a two-week break and the boys were motivated to go all out,” said Sufian.

“We will take 2-3 days’ rest now, and begin preparations for the home matches ahead, including the match against SSTMI Thunderbolts which we aim to win,” he added.

On their current position in the table, Sufian is not putting pressure on his boys, adding that it will effort if the team finish among the top three.

In the only other Division One match played today, OLAK Tigers beat SSTMI Juniors 2-0 at the Tun Razak Hockey Stadium to move up to fourth spot in the standings after six matches.

Goals from Muhammad Adhwa Mohd Jalil and T. Kavinash Panicker in the first half give OLAK nine pointscwhile SSTMI Juniors still languished at the bottom of the ladder following four defeats.

In Division Two, Group A leaders MSN/PHP Perlis Young Lion Junior continued their dominance with a 7-0 drubbing of SM Sains Raja Tun Azlan Shah in Kuala Kangsar and Penang MSSPP-USM go into second spot in the standings after a 6-1 win over KHA Kedah Juniors who are in seventh place.

In Group B, Bukit Jalil Sports School Juniors made it four wins in four matches after edging Felda Juniors 1-0 to stay on top of the table, while Anderson PHA beat MISCF-UFL 3-1 to move up to fourth spot.

Meanwhile, SMK Dato Mohd Taha crushed SM Sains Johor 5-1 in only their second win in six matches, moving up to sixth place in Group C.
