Lailin: It Feels Good To Break Negeri’s Domination

Malaysian University coach Lailin Abu Hassan said winning the Charity Shield on Wednesday night against treble champions Negeri Sembilan was the most inspiring moment for his players in the 2024 Women Malaysian Hockey League (MHL).

“Although we earned one point following the 2-2 draw against Negeri Sembilan in regulation time, we are excited to have won the first of three titles we have targeted this season,” said an elated Lailin as his players celebrated a 3-0 victory over defending champions Negeri Sembian in the penalty shootout.

Nurmaizatul Hanim Syafi Shiek Fuad, Siti Nur Arfah Mohd Nor, and Nuramirah Shakirah Zulkifli scored in the penalty shootout.

Malaysian University outclassed debutante KL City 8-0 in their opening league match at the Education Ministry Turf, and drew 1-1 with debutante QNET Phoenix.

“It feels really ‘good’ to end Negri Sembilan’s domination to win the Charity Shield. Full credit to my players for their fighting spirit against a Negri team powered by two national players and two players from China’s Liaoning team,” he said.

The Malaysian University team have five points from three matches. They play Kedah in the next match on Feb 13 at the National Hockey Stadium.
