Young Lion SSN Perlis Thunderbolts defeated SNS/PHS/SSMS (Sabah) 4-1 to be crowned the 2024 Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MJHL) Division 2 North Zone champions yesterday at the Bertam Hockey Stadium.
Muhammad Amirul Azahar nailed a brace (4th and 59th minutes), while Muhammad Zuhri Hakimi Zulkifly (13th) and Muhammad Irfan Adli Mohamad Zahir (60th) extended the score for Young Lions. Sabah replied through Alves Christiano James via penalty corner.
“We respect all our opponents and today I must congratulate my players for this big win,” said Young Lion SSN Perlis Thunderbolts coach Wira Osman. “This victory will motivate the players to play harder in the next round semi-final match against Malacca High School.”
In the semi-finals, MSNS/PHS/SSMS (Sabah) defeated Mutiara Impian-Young Boys 7-0, and Young Lion SSN Perlis Thunderbolts outclassed Anderson Juniors 5-2.
Young Lion and SNS/PHS/SSMS (Sabah) will now travel to the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur to play against the Central zone champions and runners-up in the Division 2 semi-finals on 21 June.
Young Lion SSN Perlis Thunderbolts will go head on against central zone runner-up Malacca High School while SNS/PHS/SSMS will play against Negeri Sembilan, champions of central zone.
The Division 2 final is on June 23.
