A Video Referral (VR) system will be introduced for TNB Tun Abdul Razak Cup hockey tournament which begins tomorrow at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru.
Murugan Nair, Chairman of JHA Competitions Committee, said a VR system will be implemented in the men’s division of the Tun Abdul Razak Cup, and not in the women’s event, as a dry run in preparation for the upcoming Sultan of Johor Cup that will be held on Oct 19-26 at the same venue.
“FIH rules require VR in international tournaments but the same does not apply to invitational international tournaments such as in the SOJC. However, JHA has taken the initiative to introduce VR,” said Murugan.
“We have informed FIH of this. The implementation of VR is to assist umpires in their decision-making and to help reduce errors that could cause dissatisfaction among players,” he added.
“In the Razak Cup the players will have to comply with the rules of the game. Only the captain can call for a video referral. By introducing the VR system, we are also preparing these players for future international tournaments that have VR,” said Murugan.
