Anderson Thunderbolts continued their journey in Division One of the 2024 Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MJHL) unscathed following a 4-3 win over AHP-MSP Thunderbolts at the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium yesterday.
It was the Ipoh-based school’s fourth win in seven matches, with three of them ending in a draw. With this victory, Anderson catapulted to third spot in the table standings with 15 points, pushing AHP-MSP Thunderbolts down to fourth place
Anderson’s goals were scored by Firqin Mirza Faizal (18th minute) minute, Muhammad Danis Ahmad’s penalty corner conversion (21st), while Zufar Saiful Marsita (52nd) and Muhammad Faiz Afzan (56th) added their names to the score card with field goals
AHP-MSP Thunderbolts replied through Afiq Aidil Hakimi (42nd), Shafiq Ammar Fahmi (50th) and Airil Abdul Razak (53rd minute).
Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) tops the standings with 17 points while defending champion Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) is second on 16 points.
Meanwhile, the match between SSTMI Thunderbolts and PHJ-MSNJ that was scheduled to be played yesterday in Batu Pahat did not start due to heavy rain and thunderstorms. It will now be held on June 18 at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Baru.
In other Division One matches, MSSPP-PSHA registered their first win after seven matches with a 3-1 win over Akademi Hoki MBPJ at the Tun Razak Hockey Stadium in Jalan Duta while SMIDIN-MSNT defeated SSTMI Juniors 2-1 in Bandar Penawar.
Izwan Firdaus Ahmad Tajuddin, head coach of MSSPP-PSHA, said: “We are excited about this victory. It came in our seventh match. The boys played a good game today to make a strong comeback in the second and fourth quarters.”
Akademi Hoki MBPJ went ahead in the 12th minute through Harith Danial Azhar’s field goal. But that was as far as they could go as MSSPP-PSHA took control of the match and scored three goals to ensure a 3-1 win. Putera Muhammad Basid Norhadi (25th, FG), Muhammad Danish Irfan Zulkiffli (28th, FG) and Shaikh Muhammad Amin Shaik Maznan (60th, PC) turned the table on their opponents with a strong comeback.
