The stage is set for an intense showdown as Blue Warriors and Malaysian University compete for the Vivian May Soars Cup 2025 title in the final match scheduled for Saturday (February 22) at the National Hockey Stadium, Bukit Jalil.
Blue Warriors secured their place in the final after a convincing 3-1 victory over Qnet Phoenix in the semifinals held at the National Hockey Stadium, Bukit Jalil.
Fresh from their recent triumph as champions of the 2025 TNB Malaysia Hockey League (TNB MHL) Women’s Category, Blue Warriors took an early lead goal in the very first minute of the match through a field goal by Seul Ki Cheon.
However, Qnet Phoenix fought back and equalized in the 19th minute, courtesy of a penalty corner goal by Nur Syahirah Azwan. But Blue Warriors proved their superiority, sealing their spot in the final with two goals from Eun Ji Cho in the 33rd and 55th minutes.
Blue Warriors Head coach Megat Azrafiq Megat Termizi emphasized that he constantly urges his players to deliver their best performance in every match to secure positive results.
“After winning the league title, we are definitely aiming for a double championship.
“Today’s match showed how we capitalized on our chances despite a slow start. The players also demonstrated excellent discipline.
“As we chase our third cup, we know the final is a 50-50 battle for both teams. It won’t be an easy match because I’m sure Malaysian University will be determined to claim a title from us.
“So I told my players to focus on desire and determination as a team. Give everything in the final, because, regardless of the result, we want to leave the field with pride. I believe that if we uphold these values, God willing, the outcome will be in our favor,” he said after the match.
Meanwhile, in the other semifinal match, Malaysian University secured their place in the final after a commanding 3-0 victory over Negeri Sembilan, also at the same venue.
Goals from Nur Insyirah Effarizal (10th minute), Atiqah Natasha Abdul Jalil (14th minute), and Nurmaizatul Hanim Syafi Shiek Fuad ensured Malaysian University reached the final stage for the second consecutive year.
Their head coach, Ikmal Abdul Jabar expressed his delight with his team’s performance, particularly in executing their game plan effectively against Negeri Sembilan.
He also acknowledged that Blue Warriors are the favorite in upcoming Saturday’s final but assured that his team would put up a strong fight to deny them the double crown.
“I am very satisfied with today’s match because we managed to rectify our mistakes from our previous encounter against Negeri Sembilan in the league. The analysis we conducted was effectively applied on the field today and I must commend all my players for their outstanding performance.
“PDRM remain the favorites this year, as we’ve seen their dominance in both the league and their semifinal match against Qnet. But we will strategize accordingly for the final and do our best to stop them from winning every title this year,” said Ikmal.
