Dylan Lucieer scored for the Netherlands as the European champions earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over defending champions Argentina in the 5-8th classification match of the Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil this morning.
It was Lucieer’s first goal in the championships. The Dutch will now play in Saturday’s 5-6th placing match against the winner of the second 5-8th classification encounter between Pakistan and Australia.
Argentina has been resigned to play in the 7-8th placing match against the loser of the Pakistan-Australia tie.
For the record, while the Dutch men’s junior team continued their failure to win their first World Cup title in 13 editions, their women’s team defeated Argentina 4-1 in a penalty shoot-out in the final, after a full-time score of 2-2, of the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup in Chile last Sunday to lift their second consecutive title.

This is also the Netherlands’ record fifth title in the junior women’s format, having previously won it in 1997, 2009, 2013, and 2022.
