Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ Tigers) winning streak continued with a 5-0 demolition of Olak-Nurinsafi at the Pandamaran Stadium to stay top of the Division One standings in the 2017 TNB Malaysian Junior Hockey League.
MBPJ Tigers have been unbeaten in five matches and lead the chart with 15 having scored 20 goals – two points ahead of Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School Thunderbolt (SSTMI), the 2016 League champions, who crushed Bukit Jalil Sports School Juniors 6-0 in Bandar Penawar.
In other Division One matches, Bukit Jalil Sports School Thunderbolt pulverised Politeknik Malaysia-KPT 9-0 to take third spot (12 points) in the standings while Pahang Hockey Academy Thunderbolt edged University Kuala Lumpur Young Guns 3-0 at the KLHA Stadium and Anderson Thunderbolt scored a 2-1 victory over SMK Dato Bentara Johor Juniors in a highly tension match that saw Johor Juniors’ Muhammad Kamarulzaman Kamaruddin receiving a red card for an off the ball offence.
The Johor Juniors, placed second in the standings last week, dropped to fourth spot following their defeat to Anderson Thunderbolt and have 11 points to show while UniKL Young Guns are in fifth position (9 points) followed by Pahang Hockey Academy Thunderbolt in sixth spot (8 points).
MBPJ Tigers scored through Mohamad Syabil Aizam in the 14th and 44th minutes while Ahmad Hariz Syazani Ezani (17th), Mohd Syafiq Isudin (29th) and Mohd Faisol Rozihan (57th) added one each.
As for SSTMI Thunderbolt, Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook and Muhammad Ariff Syafie Ishak netted a double with Muhammad Amirul Hamizan Azhar (49th) and Shahairul Rusyaidi Abdullah (55th) adding their names on the score card. The 17-year-old Akhimullah, who played for the National Development Squad in the Australia League, leads the top scorer list with eight goals.
Muhammad Amirul Mirza Rozi nailed a hat-trick for BJSS Thunderbolt against Politeknik Malaysia-KPT; Faiz Razin scored a brace whilst Abdul Syafiq Abdul Razak, Arif Sabron, Ahmad Fauzan Ahmad Johari and Muhammad Halif Mohd Fadzly scored a piece.
Anderson, currently in seventh spot, scored via field goals through Muhammad Syazwan Shafiq (38th minute) and Muhammad Aiman Shahmi (54th). Team captain Muhammad Shafiq Hassan replied for Johor Tigers.
UniKL head coach, A. Arul Selvaraj, said: “Loose marking and lapses in defence cost us a lot against Pahang Hockey Academy. There was just too much running with the ball and losing possession in crucial areas which cost us two goals. It is going to be tough to make the last eight now, but we still have two more matches.”
