The Young Tigress claimed their maiden TNB Women’s Tun Abdul Razak Cup title, defeating Selangor 21 at the Johor Hockey Stadium, Taman Daya, in Johor Bahru.

The national outfit, who are gearing up for the upcoming Junior Asia Cup in Oman in December, entered the match as favourites for victory after packing off Perak 5-0 in the semifinals.

Selangor, champions three times, looked to flip the script. They went into an attacking mode in the second quarter and earned a penalty corner only to see Ellya Amanina Ellias crash the ball wide.

Young Tigress head coach, Lailin Abu Hassan, said: “We won the match. That was the positive thing. But we are still not up to the mark desired. I want the players to reflect on their performance in this tournament.”

“There is a lot of work to do when we get home, especially in our penalty corner conversion rates. We will have to double our efforts as we still have time,” he added.

Nur Iman Adawiyah opened the scoring for Tigress in the 18th minute via a field goal, and then doubled the score to 2-0 in the 44th minute in similar style.

There was some consolation for Selangor when Qumyra Allysyia Iman found the back of the net in a 48th minute penalty corner conversion.

Selangor continued to create chances in the fourth quarter and there was a flurry of penalty corner opportunities in the final 10 minutes. But none of it materialised.
