Matchday 2 of the FIH Women’s Series Finals Banbridge 2019 saw our national women’s team bounce back from a narrow 1-2 loss to hosts Ireland yesterday to thrash Singapore 12-0 earlier today.

After a patient start to the match, Coach Dhaarma’s charges opened the scoring in the 9th minute through Hanis Nadia Onn’s brilliant solo run and finish before penalty corner specialist, Nuraini Rashid doubled their lead three minutes later.

Malaysia continued the pressure in the second quarter as Surizan Awang Noh tapped in a third after a goalmouth scramble followed by a goal from 15-year old starlet Kirandeep Kaur shortly after. Nuraini then converted her second penalty corner of the match to make it 5-0 at half-time.

Nuraini completed her hat-trick of penalty corners five minutes into the second half as the flurry of goals continued in the third quarter through Nurmaizatulhanim Syafi (39’ FG), Siti Husain (42’ FG) and Fazilla Sylvester (44’ PC).

The final quarter saw Siti completing her brace through another field goal in the 47th minute before Norfaiezah Saiuti (51’ FG) and Norsharina Shabuddin (60’ PC) grabbing a goal each to complete the 12-0 rout of the world No.35 ranked Singapore.

After the conclusion of the second round of group matches, the Malaysian Tigress (3 pts) are second in Pool A behind Ireland (6 pts) and ahead of their next opponents, Czech Republic (3 pts) through a superior goal difference.

Our ladies will return to action against the world No.19 Czechs on Tuesday (7.00 pm Malaysia time).

Group winners qualify for the semi-finals while the second and third-placed teams of each group will play in cross-over ties for the remaining two semi-final spots. The finalists of this tournament will secure a playoff spot to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
