Royal Malaysian Police Blue Warriors continued their march towards the TNB-Malaysian Women’s Hockey League 2025 title with a 3-1 victory over Qnet Phoenix at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday, Feb 25.
The win saw the Charity Shield champions consolidate their grip at the top of the standings with 12 points from four matches – eight points ahead of Qnet Phoenix, a team represented by 13 players from the national junior team that qualified for the FIH Women’s Junior World Cup 2025 in Santiago, Chile.
The Young Tigress earned the fifth and last ticket to qualify on merit for the first time to the Junior World Cup following a 6-0 victory over Thailand in the 5-6th classification match at the Junior Asia Cup in Muscat, Oman on Dec 15.
The match against the Blue Warriors was Qnet Phoenix’s second in the seven-team league.
Blue Warriors’ Fatin Shafika Mahd Sukri scored a field goal in the sixth minute, Nurul Safiqah Mat Isa converted a penalty stroke (45th) to extend the lead to 2-0, and national player Hanis Nadiah Onn added the third via a field goal in the 59th minute. Qnet Phoenix’s consolation goal came through Zawiatul Akma Hartomo.
China’s Zuo Dandan, who represents Negeri Sembilan, is the leading scorer in the tournament with four goals while Fatin Shafika and Hanis Nadiah scored three goals each.
Megat Azrafiq Termizi’s squad will travel to Bertam on February 5 for their fifth match against Mutiara-MSSPP-PSHA-PKS Uniten. Their last league match is scheduled for Australia’s Northern Territory Stingers on Feb 13.
Mutiara may find the going tough against the high-riding Blue Warriors who may not want to miss this opportunity of claiming the league title after their Charity Shield success.
“I am satisfied with the progress of the team in our last four matches. I am not thinking of the league title at this moment as we still have two more matches to play. Mutiara may have lost by big margins of defeats in their last two matches but we are not underestimating them,” said Megat. “We know nothing about the strength of NT Stingers and our last match against them is crucial.”
On Sunday (January 26), Negeri Sembilan will host Malaysian University at the Seremban 2 Hockey Stadium (4pm). The TNBMHL takes a break from Jan 27-Feb 3 in lieu of the Chinese New Year festival. It will resume on February 4.
