CHILE, SOUTH KOREA END JWC JOURNEY WITH WINS

Chile defeated Canada 4-1 to finish second to last in the 16-team Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.
In the Junior Pan American championships this year, the Canadians and Chileans were embroiled in a tense semi-finals shootout where the Canadians prevailed.


Sebastian Wolansky started the Chilean goal rush in this 15-16th classification match with a penalty corner conversion in the 13th minute to go 1-0 ahead, and Joaquin Munoz extended the lead five minutes later via a penalty corner.

But Chile put on a stunning performance in the last quarter to score two more goals. Felipe Richard netted from open play (55th), and Wolansky converted a penalty stroke in the 57th minute, his second in the match, as the Chileans raced to 4-1 victory.
In another match, Dohyun Lim scored the fourth goal with one minute and 15 seconds of the match remaining to give South Korea a 4-3 win against Egypt. Dohyun scored two goals in the match, taking his tally to 10 in the tournament.

The Koreans, who qualified for the semifinals of the 1989 event in Ipoh, are now resigned to 13th placing. The other Korean scorers are Jiho Choi (28th), Hoyun Ryu (29th). The Egyptians scored through Said Kamal (26th), Hossameldin Ragab (38th), and Bassem Mokhtar (51st).
