Selangor crushed Pahang's hopes of a TNB Tun Abdul Razak Cup 2022 women's title with a 2-1 win in the final Super Group match at the National Hockey Stadium today to set-up a final against Melaka, who beat Penang 4-1 to top the group, at 6pm tomorrow.
Pahang were looking to cap a sweet year by adding the TNB Tun Razak Cup to their Malaysia Games gold medal and looked to be hot favourites after cruising through the preliminary rounds with a 100 percent record, capped by a whopping 25 goals scored with just one conceded, but their first defeat of the tournament ended all hopes.
Selangor got off to a fine start with Fatin Shafika Mahd Sukri netting a field goal to give them an early lead in the third minute, before Nurafiqah Syahzani Azhar converted a 19th minute penalty corner to double the score.
Pahang looked to fight back with a Nur Shazwani Zakaria field goal in the 29th minute, but Selangor's defence held strong to book their place in the final.
Melaka made easy work of Penang with Norshafiqha Ishak bagging a brace in the 32nd and 57th minute, after Nuraslinda Said had given them the lead in the 23rd minute and Khairunnisa Ayuni Mohd Sharuddin doubled the score three minutes later. Penang's goal was scored by Allisya Yushira Badri in the 40th minute.
The final tomorrow will be the third meeting in this tournament between Melaka and Selangor with their preliminary group match resulting in a 1-0 victory to Selangor, while Melaka exacted revenge with a 2-1 win in their Super Group encounter on Friday.
In Group Z to decide the bottom four placings, Terengganu and Armed Forces played out a 1-1 draw, while Kuala Lumpur beat Singapore 4-1.
