Melaka Stun Selangor, Pahang Cruise Past Penang

Melaka stunned favourites Selangor with a 2-1 win at the National Hockey Stadium to put themselves in a favourable position to make the women's final in the TNB Tun Abdul Razak Cup 2022 today. The victory put Melaka level on points with Pahang, who moved to the top of the Super Group on goal difference after subjecting Penang to a 6-1 hammering today. Having beaten Penang 5-1 on Wednesday, preliminary Group A winners Selangor must also have drawn confidence having already beaten Melaka 1-0 in their preliminary round encounter on Monday. Selangor started on the front foot with a Nur Idrina Asnida Mohd Yusmi field goal giving them the lead in the 14th minute. Melaka then looked to contain Selangor before pushing for an equaliser, which came courtesy of a penalty corner conversion by Liyana Aqilah Mohd Sepawi in the 33rd minute, before Selangor were left stunned by a Nuraslinda Said field goal in the 50th minute which proved to be the winner. Selangor now face an uphill task against Malaysia Games champions Pahang in their final Super Group match tomorrow in their bid to make the final. There was no let off from Pahang, who had already beaten Penang 5-1 en route to topping Group B of in the preliminary round and they went one better today with a 6-1 whitewash. That came thanks to a Nuramirah Syakirah Zulkifli hattrick in the 29th, 51st and 52nd minutes, while Hanis Nadiah Onn bagged a brace in the eighth and 37th minutes and their other goal was scored by Siti Zulaikha Husain in the 42nd minute. Penang's solitary goal was scored by Nur Iman Adawiyah Mohd Suhaimi through a 50th minute penalty corner. Having already been subjected to two heavy defeats in the Super Group, Penang are already out of the running for a spot in the final on Sunday and will have their work cut out tomorrow when they face Melaka who will be determined to seal their final spot. In Group Z for the bottom four classifications, Terengganu beat Singapore 2-0 with two penalty corner conversions from Siti Nur Irdina Mohd Nor in the 33rd minute and Nurul Farawahida Marzuki in the 52nd minute. In another Group Z match, Armed Forces beat Kuala Lumpur 3-2 with a hattrick from Nor Asfarina Isahifiqa Isahhidun in the eighth, 10rh and 43rd minutes, while Kuala Lumpur replied through Nur Syaza Afiqah Safawi and Hasya Syahida Saifuddin in the 28th and 30th minutes respectively.
