Terengganu cruised into Group Z of the TNB Tun Abdul Razak Cup 2022 after beating Negeri Sembilan 6-2 in the playoff at the National Hockey Stadium today.
The result saw Negeri Sembilan ending the competition ranked bottom out of nine teams, while Terengganu will go through another round robin phase with Kuala Lumpur, Armed Forces and Singapore to decide fifth to eight place in the competition beginning tomorrow.
Terengganu's win came courtesy of a brace each by Nurul Farawahida Marzuki (ninth, 39th minutes) and Nur Aisyah Hashim in the 44th and 60th minutes, with Tuan Nur Hidayah Tuan Ismal and Noor Aliyana Noor Aidi Izuan adding a goal each in the 27th and 45th minutes, while Negeri Sembilan replied through Irdina Madihah Azmi and Nurfarra Firdayu Hamidy in the 15th and 47th minutes respectively.
The action gets down to the business end tomorrow with the Women's Super Group seeing Selangor take on Melaka with a victory for the former all but confirming their spot in the final, while Pahang take on Penang in a must-win match for both to keep their hopes of making the final alive.
The men's competition preliminary round ends tomorrow with Johor, Pahang and Melaka already through to the semi-finals, with the remaining spot up for grabs between Perak and Terengganu in Group A.
Defending champions Perak face what looks like an easier task on paper against Armed Forces, needing just a draw against opponents who are effectively out of the competition, while Terengganu need to beat hosts Kuala Lumpur and hope for Armed Forces to spring a surprise.
Group B sees Pahang play Selangor, Melaka take on Police, with Singapore ending their competition against Penang.
