THT, TNB, Maybank, and Matador Advance to TNB Cup Semi-Finals

Four teams, Terengganu Hockey Team (THT), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Maybank and Matador Hockey Club, have successfully advanced to the semi-finals of the 2025 TNB Cup after securing victories in their respective quarter final matches.   Defending champion TNB delivered a commanding performance, thrashing Liaoning Men's Hockey Team 8-2 in the quarter final match held at the KPM Hockey Stadium in Lembah Pantai.   Muhammad Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal emerged as the top scorer for TNB, netting five goals, while Mohammad Haris Iskandar Osman contributed two goals and Syed Mohamad Syafiq Syed Cholan added another.   Liaoning Men's Hockey Team managed to score twice, through Wang Yubo and team captain Dong Yang.   TNB head coach Nor Saiful Zaini Nasiruddin acknowledged that the upcoming semi-final clash against Maybank would be a different challenge compared to their encounter in the 2025 TNB Malaysian Hockey League (TNB MHL).   He explained that despite their 3-0 victory in the league match, he does not see the upcoming semi-final as an easy path for his team.   “It will be a completely different match despite our 3-0 win over Maybank in the league. We need to be cautious, especially against their quick counter attacks and penalty corner executions.   “We must minimize mistakes and create more scoring opportunities inside the D-zone to secure a place in the final,” he said after the match.   Meanwhile, THT, having already claimed 2 titles, the Charity Shields Cup and the TNB MHL Premier Championship is inching closer to achieving a treble.   The East Coast based club stormed into the semi-finals with a commanding 8-3 victory over Armed Forces HT.   Faizal Saari shone with a hat trick, while Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook netted two goals. Fitri Saari, Muhamad Faris Harizan and Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin Tengku Abdul Jalil each contributed a goal.   Armed Forces HT’s goal came from Ismail Abu, who scored twice, and Mohammad Noor Firdaus Rosdi who added one.   THT Head Coach, Mohd Harfizi Baharom expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, particularly in maintaining their intensity and the game’s tempo throughout the match. They now set their sights on the semi-final encounter against Matador Hockey Club.   “Alhamdulillah, the players maintained their tempo until the final whistle, and we managed to score eight goals despite facing early pressure when ATM equalized at 1-1,” he said.   “The team was well prepared for such scenarios and managed to take control of the match. While the treble remains our ultimate goal, our focus now is solely on the semi-final.” he added.   In the other quarter final matches, Maybank sealed a 2-0 over UiTM HA-KPT, while Matador Hockey Club edged past TNB Thunderbolts TS2-1 to book their place in the TNB cup semi-finals.
