MIHL 2022- Defending Champions Sound Early Warning

Defending men's champions ATM Gladiator sent out an early warning in their title defence with an 11-2 thumping of Perlis Mighty Lions as they opened accounts in the 2nd Malaysian Indoor Hockey League (MIHL) at the Sultan Idris Education University here today. Mohd Shafiq Yaacob starred for ATM Gladiator with five goals as the defending champions looked to be in an uncompromising mood from the start. National player Mohd Shafiq showcased his versatility, scoring field goals in the first and 40th minutes, while netting penalty corners in the second, 15th and 32nd minutes. Their other goals were scored by Mohd Norhafizie Jamil Azomi in the third and 23rd minutes, Razali Mohd Hazemi in the ninth and 26th minutes, Mohd Irfan Haiqal Abdul Rahim in the 13th minute and Mohd Izwan Rodzi in the 14th minute. The win moved ATM Gladiator straight into second spot in the men's standings behind DBKL HT, who registered their second big win with a 10-0 demolition of the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) today, to follow up their 8-1 win over Silver Seladang yesterday. In other matches, hosts UPSI-KPT registered their first win of the tournament after overcoming KJLJD Stallion 4-3 in the sole morning match, before KJLJD Stallion returned to the court in the evening to draw 3-3 against Silver Seladang. In the women's tournament, defending champions DBKL HT maintained a firm grip on the competition with a 7-0 win over Mutiara Penang, to maintain a 100 percent record without conceding a single goal, adding to their 5-0 victory over hosts UPSI-KPT yesterday. Fazila Sylvester Silin and Qasidah Najwa Muhammad Halimi scored a brace each to set the tone for the rout, while DBKL HT's other goals came through a penalty stroke by Nor Asfarina Isahyifiqa Isahhidun in the eighth minute, a field goal from captain Raja Norsharina Raja Shabuddin in the 11th minute and a penalty corner from Nor Izaidah Ibrahim in the 26th minute. The result saw DBKL HT open up a three-point lead atop the table, ahead of BNHC KL, who beat ATM Gladiator 4-2 today to occupy second spot on goal difference ahead of MOHC-MHA and Mutiara Penang.
