UITM, Matador Fall To TNB And Thunderbolts

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and TNB Thunderbolts continued to waltz in the TNB-Malaysian Hockey League 2025 (TNBMHL) on Sunday (Jan 26).

 

The senior TNB side defeated Universiti Teknologi MARA (UITM) 4-2 while Thunderbolts registered a 6-2 victory over Matador Hockey Club that was saddled with the absence of four key players.

 

The Green Shirts were without defender and penalty corner specialist Sufyan Khan who served a one-match suspension, midfielder Abdul Manan underwent a surgical procedure, while Abdul Hannan Shahid and Abdul Waheed Ashraf Rana will join the team in the remaining matches.

 

Nor Saiful Zaini’s TNB scored through Nik Muhammad Aiman Nik Rozemi (3rd), Syed Mohamad Syafiq Syed Cholan (6th), Wan Haziq Hishamuddin Wan Ameer Ruzman (30th), and Norsyafiq Sumantri (40th). UITM ‘s goals were scored by Airil Abdul Razak (11th) and Muhammad Aiman Hakimi (25th).

 

TNB catapulted to second in the table standings with 12 points – six behind runaway leaders Terengganu Hockey Team (THT), leaving Maybank in third spot (12 pts), and Thunderbolts in fourth spot with nine points following three wins and two loses.

 

The fourth quarter, however, saw four players receiving yellow cards. UiTM’s Muhammad Rashid Baharom and Perabu Tangarah were sent off in the 50th minutes while TNB’s Muhammad Amirul Hamizan and ShelloSilverius received the marching orders four minutes before the end of regulation time.

 

The league resumes on February 4 with matches between Armed Forces and Matador Hockey Club at the Ministry of Education ground on Jalan Pantai (4.0pm), and Nurinsafi Sporting versus TNB in Bertam (8.0pm).

 

Australia’s Northern Territory Stingers will play their first match against Nurinsfi on February 6 at the National Hockey Stadium (8.0pm).

 

Meanwhile, in the women’s TNBMHL competition, Negeri Sembilan clawed defending champions Malaysian University 2-0 at the Seremban 2 Hockey Stadium on Sunday (Jan 26).

 

Nur Atira Mohamad Ismail (10th) and Nur Zafirah Aziz (58th) scored for Negeri Sembilan. The women’s league resumes on February 5 with a match between Mutiara-MSSP-PSHA- PKS Uniten in Bertam.

 

The Royal Malaysian Police Blue Warriors’ top the table standings with 12 points from four wins, Negeri Sembilan moved up to second spot following their latest victory (7 pts), QnetPhoenix in third spot (4 pts) and Malaysian University in fourth spot (3 pts).
