The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) in their continuous effort to promote and entice the Malaysian public to come to the Bukit Jalil Stadium from Dec 5-16 to watch the FIH Junior World Cup hockey tournament, have two Media Prima Audio Radio stations to give them the reach.

 

Today’s Media Prima’s Audio’s hotfm and KOOL101 came on board as sponsors as Radio Partners of MHC for the Junior World Cup hockey tournament, where 16 nations, including Malaysia as host, will be competing.

 

Malaysia qualified for the tournament on merit and not on the ticket as host.

MHC president Dato’ Sri Subahan Kamal who is on a mission to build the fans base and raise the profile of the game, said that they were glad that both the stations have come on board and will promote the tournament aggressively.

 

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between MHC and Nazri Noran, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Media Prima Audio at the Bukit Jalil Stadium this morning.

Among the areas the two stations will be promoting the event will be through live interviews of players and coaches, digital and social media, dedicate five weeks event promotions via on air and through its various promotional channels and digital content related to the Malaysian team’s training sessions, among others.

“Although hockey has been played in the country for a longtime, it is not as popular as football, although currently the popularity is picking up in recent years,” said MHC Subahan.

 

“We strongly believe through the Junior World Cup, where the future stars will be on showcase, we see the public witness the talent of these players and have an affiliation to the game and build a bigger fan base.

At the signing ceremony yesterday were also MHC CEO Nishel Kumar, MHC Event Manager of the Junior World Cup, Brian Fernandez, Deputy Group Director of Hot FM, Kool 101 dan Digital, Shah Hayatudin and Executive Director of Hot FM, Raja Khairil.

 

“HotFM dan Kool101 are radio stations which are recognised and popular among the Malaysian public, especially the youth and their collaboration with us, will definitely help us extensively in promotion and awareness of the Junior World Cup, we are hosting,” added Subahan.

 

Shah Hayatudin, representing HotFM dan Kool101, said that with their status as the No 1 Malay Language Station, they are confident of a wide reach through their promotion of the Junior World Cup.

The last time Malaysia hosted the Junior World Cup was in 2009, but as co-host with Singapore and the tournament was held in Johor Bahru.

This will be the be the fourth time Malaysia will be hosting the tournament, after the first time when it hosted hosted the second edition of the tournament in 1982, at the then brand new Tun Razak Hockey Stadium at Jalan Duta in Kuala Lumpur, which then was the country’s first ever artificial pitch (astroturf), before the second time was in 1989 held in Ipoh.

The Junior World Cup was officially launched in June by the Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia, Hannah Yeoh.

The competition has host Malaysia drawn in Group A together with  Argentina, Australia and Chile; Germany, France, South Africa, and Egypt in Group B; India, Spain, Korea, and Canada in Group C; and the Netherlands, Belgium, Pakistan, and New Zealand are in Group D.
