Pahang were made to sweat before they were able to pull off a close 2-1 win over Selangor to lift the Boys’ Division title of the MHC National Under-16 Hockey Tournament 2022 here tonight at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
Playing in their traditional white and black strip, Pahang were more composed as they played a more offensive game to take the lead in the second quarter through Muhammad Nazmi Rahimi Che Anuar penalty corner in the 18th minute.
The goal injected further confidence for the East Coast side as they were quick to double the advantage in the 36th minute off a field goal from Muhammad Hakeem Danish Fadhlur Rahman.
And just when Pahang took their foot off the pedal, Selangor stormed back with their first goal of the game right at the hour mark with an opportunistic finish from Muhammad Syariel Shah Mohd Shahrul.
While the goal seemed to have invigorated Selangor, it was not enough to deny Pahang the victory as they stood to their ground all the way to the end.
