Malaysia To Participate In The FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2022

The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) is delighted to announce the participation of the National Women’s Special Project Squad in the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup in Potchefstroom, South Africa from Apr 1-12 this year.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) contacted MHC this evening and offered the Asian slot in the Women’s Junior World Cup to Malaysia after Japan decided to withdraw.

Malaysia was selected on merit based on the team’s fifth rank in Asia and MHC is thrilled with the offer given to the National Women’s Special Project Squad.

This will be the first time Malaysia will be participating in this prestigious competition since its introduction in 1989 in Ottawa, Canada.

MHC President, Dato’ Sri Subahan Kamal was pleased with the offer from FIH. “MHC is delighted with the offer. We consider the opportunity to participate in the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup as an honour.

“After discussing the offer with the Executive Board members and the National Sports Council (NSC), we unanimously agreed to accept the offer to compete in the junior World Cup. This is historic and we are extremely proud of it.

“Sending the team to this tournament is in line with our vision to raise the standard of our women’s hockey, not just in Asia but on the world stage in the next five years.

“The planning and preparations for this tournament including the selection of the players for this tournament will be revealed in the near future.

For the ninth edition of the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup, Malaysia is ranked 20^th and will join among others, the likes of Netherlands (ranked No. 1), England (2^nd), Argentina (3^rd), Germany (5^th), India (9^th), Korea (11^th), Ireland (12^th), Canada (13^th), United State (15^th), South Africa (16^th), Russia (22^nd), Wales (23^rd), Uruguay (26^th), Ukraine (28^th) and Zimbabwe (54^th).
