
Sabah Sports School emerged TNB-Junior Hockey League Division Two Group C champions following a 5-1 demolition of Terengganu Sports Council in their final Division Two match the Malacca Municipal Stadium on Saturday.
In other Group C matches played, Tunku Besar Secondary School (TBSS) Tampin edged SMK Dato’ Bentara Luar Juniors 3-0 and Young Hurricanes Malacca defeated Pahang Hockey Academy 2-1.
It was a job well done for Sabah Sports School, who needed all three points to ensure they emerge champions of the group ahead of TBSS Tampin, who also finished their campaign on 19 points, but with an inferior goal difference.
The East Malaysia side opened the scoring as early as the third minute through a Mohd Haziq Asyraaf Berahim’s field goal while team captain Muhd Faiz Aiman M. Aseri made it 2-0 in the 11th minute. Mohd Saifuddin Azli’s 24th minute strike and Mohd Haziq Asyraaf goal in the 49th minute gave Sabah Sports School a 4-0 lead.
Terengganu Sports Council pulled one back at the hour mark through Mohd Khairi Anwar Azmi before Mohd Saifuddin got his second and Sabah Sports School’s fifth through a penalty corner.
Malacca High School-Hercules finished the group in third place on 18 points while Young Hurricanes Malacca is fourth on 17 points.
In Group A, Penang Schools Sports Council MSSPP-USM thrashed SM Sains Raja Tun Azlan Shah 7-0 to finish second in the group on 18 points behind champions Perlis Young Lion Junior MSN/PHP.
