HAZIQ HITS HAT-TRICK AS BANGLADESH FALL

Malaysia crushed Bangladesh 8-0 to finish fifth in the 8th Men’s Junior Asia Cup at the Wisma Belia Hockey Stadium yesterday.

Muhammad Haziq Samsul scored a hat-trick via field goals (30th, 44th and 66th) to take his personal goal tally to six in the tournament; Sufi Ismat Rohulamin (2nd, 6th) and Nazmi Jaslan (52nd, 58th) added to Bangladesh misery while Azwar Rahman scored one.

Though the score line reflects Malaysia’s dominance in the game, Bangladesh were not a spent force entirely as their forwards had time and again cracked the Malaysian defence, earning five penalty corners.

If the big defeat served as a blow to their confidence, Bangladesh also saw defender Mohamed Khorshadur Rahman put on a stretcher and rushed to hospital for a concussion after being struck on the face by a high-speed ball in the semi-circle.

Malaysian head coach, Arul Selvaraj was concerned with the injury suffered by Khorshadur and hopes he recovers fast.

“Though we had failed to qualify for the Junior World Cup it does not mean that we have lost our battle. These boys are young and the tournament has thought them many lessons. There will be another day,” said Arul.
