
Bangladesh rallied back from a goal down to force a 2-2 with Oman and took off from there to win 3-2 in penalty shootout in the 5-8th placing match of the 8th Men’s Junior Asia Cup here at the Wisma Belia Hockey Stadium.
Oman let slip a golden chance to score their first win in the tournament having led 2-1 with goals from Salmen Al Nofali (64th, PC) and Shafi Al-Shatari (67th, FG) after Roman Sarkar had given Bangladesh a 31st minute penalty corner goal.
However, with just three second remaining Bangladesh struck back through the towering Milon Hossain from open play to force a 2-2 draw and take the game into penalty shootout.
Farhad Shetul, Sabbir Hossain and Fazla Rabbi made it count for Bangladesh in the most crucial moments while Shafi Al-Shatari and Muhanna Al-Hasani replied for Oman. The last time the two teams met in Group B of the preliminary round, Bangladesh won 5-4.
Bangladesh goes into showdown with hosts and defending champions Malaysia in the 5-6th placing match on Sunday while Oman takes on China in the 7-8th placing playoff tie.
