Negeri Sembilan downed Terengganu 6-4 to advance to the 5-6th classification match of Division One in one of the biggest surprise in the TNB 53rd Tun Abdul Razak Cup at the National Hockey Stadium yesterday.
Sarjit Singh’ Terengganu went into the match with a record of finishing third in their Group A preliminary round while Negeri Sembilan rocked at the bottom of Group B having lost all their matches.
Led by national goalkeeper S. Kumar and midfielder Marhan Jalil, Negeri Sembilan will meet Pahang in tomorrow’s 5-6th classification match. Pahang edged Penang 5-4 while the losing teams will play in the 7-8th classification match.
The highlight of tomorrow’s matches is the semi-finals between defending champions Perak and 19-time champions Kuala Lumpur while Johor goes into showdown with Malacca, dubbed ‘The Hurricanes”.
In Division Two, Police are poised to emerge league champions in the last match on Saturday with Selangor hot on their heels. The cops have 13 points from five matches while Selangor are on 12. A Police victory over Sarawak means end of the road for Selangor’s hopes of overtaking the cops even if Selangor trounced Perlis by a big margin.
It’s all about numbers and Police would have amassed 16 points and Selang05 15 in the final countdown.
