Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) and Blue Warriors completely dominated the 2025 TNB Malaysia Hockey League (TNB MHL), securing treble titles after winning all three major trophies offered this season.

The East Coast based team completed their treble triumph by defeating Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) 3-0 in a penalty shootout after both teams were locked at 1-1 in the final of the 2025 TNB Cup at Field 2, National Hockey Stadium, Bukit Jalil.

In a final witnessed by thousands of local hockey fans who filled the stadium, TNB struck first with a penalty corner goal by Jang Jong Hyun in the third minute while THT responded in the 18th minute with a penalty corner by Muhammad Arif Syafie Ishak.

Despite both teams attacking each other’s defenses, no further goals were scored, leading to a penalty shootout. The experience of THT’s players proved to be an advantage, as they calmly converted their penalty shots, while TNB struggled to beat THT’s goalkeeper, Muhammad Hafizuddin Othman.

THT head coach, Mohd Hafizi Baharom, praised his players’ fighting spirit despite the fierce challenge posed by TNB in the final match.

He also expressed pride in his squad’s achievement of maintaining an unbeaten record throughout the season, ensuring that the Charity Shields Cup, TNB MHL Premier Category title, and the 2025 TNB Cup all went to THT.

“First and foremost, I am proud of my players for finishing the season undefeated. We expected a tough match because TNB is a strong team and has shown improvement since losing in the Charity Shields Cup.

“Overall, all the players gave their best and demonstrated a high level of determination. Thank you to the supporters and everyone who has supported THT,” he said after the match.

When asked about the challenges for the next season and the pressure to defend their title, Mohd Hafizi admitted that the victory would serve as motivation for the players to improve further.

“I believe they will use this as motivation to develop even further in the future. They must stay alert because the challenges ahead will be tougher, and they need to start preparing now to defend the championship,” he explained.

Earlier, Maybank secured third place after defeating Matador Hockey Club 2-1.

Meanwhile, in the final of the Vivian May Soars Cup, Blue Warriors defeated Malaysian University 3-2 in a penalty shootout after both teams were tied 1-1 in the match at Field 2, National Hockey Stadium, Bukit Jalil.

This victory allowed Blue Warriors to make history by achieving a treble championship, having previously lifted the Charity Shields Cup and the 2025 TNB Malaysia Hockey League (TNB MHL) Women’s Category title.

Blue Warriors coach Megat Azrafiq Megat Termizi credited his team’s fighting spirit and strong desire to win as the key factors behind their treble success.

“Alhamdulillah, this treble victory is a significant achievement in my career and for the players. Their determination and will to win were the keys to today’s success.

“Before entering the field, I told them not to focus on the trophy but to play in a way that would leave them satisfied with their performance after the match.

“Win or lose, what matters is that they gave their best. That mindset was crucial to our success this season.

“Everyone knows that many of my players are already at an advanced age, and some may retire soon. So, we wanted to gift them an extraordinary farewell, which also contributed to our victory.

“Credit must also be given to the Malaysian University team because they put up an incredibly tough fight. They had their chances to win, but luck was on our side,” he said.

In another match for third and fourth place, Negeri Sembilan secured third place with a 3-2 victory over QNET Phoenix.
