Penang put together a convincing come-from-behind 3-2 win over Perak to go top of Group A in the women’s TNB Tun Abdul Razak Cup at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru today.
The match got off with Perak dominating the first two quarters as they looked to lock Penang out.
Nurain Atiqah Mohd Fauzi scored the first goal for Perak in the 17th minute and Dian Nursyakira Najwa extended the lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute. Both goals were scored from open play.
While Perak took control of the first half, Penang upped the tempo in the second half and scored three goals to their advantage.
Qhairunisya Mohd Hanili reduced the deficit to 1-2 with a field goal in the 37th minute while Nurfitrah Nadhia Shamsudin scored a brace in the 41st and 44th minutes that steered Penang to a comfortable 3-2 victory.
The win was Penang’s second in two days following the opening day 1-0 victory against Johor.
In other matches, Terengganu edged Negeri Sembian 1-0 in the east coast state’s first match of the tournament. Nur Syuhada Suhaimi converted a penalty corner in the 52nd minute.
Selangor, the 2017, 2019 and 2022 champions, claimed three points in their opening match in the tournament following a 2-1 victory over Johor, who suffered their second defeat in two days.
It was Fazilla Slyvester Silin who opened the scoring for Selangor in the 34th minute via a field goal. Johor equalized in the 43rd minute through Atiqah Natasha’s field goal before Selangor held the advantage once again with Nor Qashrina Azli’s penalty corner conversion in the 48th minute to win 2-1.
