The Young Tigress forwards found the form and rhythm as they thumped Kuala Lumpur 7-0 in the TNB Tun Abdul Razak Cup 2024 at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium today.
Team manager Datuk Mohd Saiyuti Abd Samat and coach Lailin Abu Hassan’s concern after Tuesday’s narrow 3-1 opening match win against Malacca evaporated in the second match this morning following an improved performance – a big positive step.
“How these goals were created is important. Today, they played a much better game than against Malacca and I am pleased with their performance. They must continue this momentum throughout this tournament,” said Saiyuti.
“They began well, and started creating chances right from the beginning. This is the kind of performance we want from players. Now they are playing like a national team,” he added.
The ninth edition of the Tun Abdul Razak Cup is a platform for the national women’s junior team’s preparation for the upcoming Junior Asia Cup in Muscat, Oman in December.
The Young Tigress dominated the match. The intensity paid off as they went 2-0 ahead by the third minute. Nur Shamine Azureen 2-0 put her side 2-0 up with field goals in the first and third minutes.
Zati Alyani Muhamad Zubir stepped up her game with a hat-trick (26th, 45th and 55th minutes) while Siti Nur Atika Shaikh Maznan (32nd) and Nur Iman Adawiyah (51st) contributed to the goal count with penalty corner conversions.
The Young Tigress are on top of Group B table standings on six points with Terengganu in second spot (3), followed by Malaysian Armed Forces (1), Kuala Lumpur 1.
